New paper explores if elephants simulate estrus

A new scientific paper on which Joyce is an author is made available through PloS One. The paper whose lead author is Lucy Bates examines a phenomenon that Joyce and her colleagues have observed for decades in Amboseli: Why elephant mothers might simulate estrous behavior when their young daughters come into estrus for the first time?

You will find the paper online here, and you can download it from ElephantVoices Document Download Center through this link: icon Bates et al. 2010. Why Do African Elephants Simulate Oestrus? An Analysis of Longitudinal Data. (190.59 kB)
