In the beginning of February 2009 we posted a story about a baby elephant that fell down into a well in Amboseli - and how we together with local maasai and staff from the Amboseli Elephant Research Project rescued him. After having tried to find his family for quite some time we had to take the tough decision that he couldn't stay in Amboseli. In ElephantVoices' field vehicle we brought him to the Amboseli airstrip to be picked up by The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Nairobi.

To get a 350 pound baby elephant up from a well safely is no joke - despite the well not being very deep. A baby elephant is not easy to get into the trunk of a Landcruiser either, but everything went fine. We are very happy to tell you that the baby elephant now called Kibo is thriving in Sheldricks elephant orphanage. You may enjoy watcing the video from the rescue.
