Welcome

Welcome to the Asian Elephant Identification Database project. You will find more about the project on this page on ElephantVoices.

In the pilot version of the database you will currently (September 2009) find core information and photographs related to 50 elephants from the elephant population in Minneriya-Kaudulla, Sri Lanka, updated by Joyce. The Minneriya-Kaudulla Elephant Project was initiated by ElephantVoices in collaboration with biologist Manori Gunawardena in 2008. Manori's continued work with the Minneriya-Kaudulla elephant population is supported by Dilmah Conservation.

You will have to register as a user to be able to access the database. Information requested will not in any way be used for other purposes than giving us a basis for statistical data. You will see that some information will be left open in your User Profile, though, and will thereby be available for other users.

We hope you enjoy checking out the database while meeting a few of the Minneriya-Kaudulla elephants. Hopefully you will also be able to visit these two fascinating national parks in North Central Sri Lanka.
