Welcome!
You can now start to "investigate" the ElephantVoices Visual and Tactile Signals Database©. If you have comments, mail us! Be aware that there will be changes and additions over the next couple of years as the database is "fine-tuned" and improved.

We are happy for any use of the database toward the better understanding, conservation and welfare of elephants. We have therefore made an effort to let you have easy access to the information contained therein. We would, though, ask that when using information from the website you refer to "Poole, J.H. & Granli, P.K. 2003. Visual and Tactile Signals of African Savanna Elephants, http://www.elephantvoices.org/index.php?topic=what_comm&topic2=
what_comm/visual_tactile_signals.html", or, where appropriate, to the original source material as referenced.

The "code" in the database refers to abbreviated code names for the signal-names and is merely meant as a suggestion for "standard" codes. Due to the large number of signals and the need to distinguish them easily, many of the codes are long. Those of you whose work involves a subset of signals may wish to find shorter codes. Pick and choose!

The database is built in PHP/MySQL, optimized for a screen resolution of 1024 by 768 or higher.
